Mirko Birbaumer studied physics at the ETH Zurich with a focus on theoretical and mathematical physics. In 2005 he completed his studies at ETH Zurich with a thesis on conformal field theory. In 2010 he received his doctorate from the Institute for Systems Biology at ETH Zurich on computer-aided image analysis and pattern recognition in large biological image data sets, genetic networks and agent modeling of virus particles. In 2011, as a postdoc at the Chair of System Design at ETH Zurich, he developed agent models for the movement of viruses and bacteria in cells. On September 1st, 2011 he moved to the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts as a lecturer in mathematics and physics. Since 2019, Mr. Birbaumer has been the profile coordinator for Data Science in the Master of Science and Engineering at the HSLU.
