Sameer Alam
Associate Professor and Deputy Director, Air Traffic Management Research Institute, NTU SingaporeSameer is an Associate Professor at the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He is the Deputy Director of Air Traffic Management Research Institute, leading its AI program for Air Traffic Management and Co-Director of the Saab-NTU Joint Lab, leading its Computer Vision Program for Digital Air Traffic Control Towers. Sameer obtained BSc (Math), MTech (Computer Sc.) and PhD in Computer Sc. with specialization in Machine Learning from UNSW Australia.
Sameer has over 20 years of experience in the design and development of Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning models for Air Traffic Management. He has worked with various organizations including ICAO Middle-East, NASA Ames USA, Air Services Australia, CAAS Singapore, Eurocontrol, Civil Aviation Affairs Bahrain, and ENAC France.
He also serves as a technical advisor to the Middle East Regional Monitoring Agency of the ICAO, technical advisor to the Ministry of Transport Bahrain, Editorial Board Member of Transportation Research Part-C and Program Committee member for the US & Europe ATM R&D Seminar 2021. His research interest are in AI-Human Hybrid systems, Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning, Evolutionary Computation and Complex Networks.
His research work has won several competitive awards including eight (8) Best Paper awards in international research conferences (ATM R&D Seminar, ICRAT, DASC, ICNS etc.), Young Tall Poppy Scientist of the Year Award (Australia), Fresh Science award (Australia), ANU Science Medal (Australia), UNSW Inventor of the Year (finalist) Award. He has published over 150 peer-reviewed research papers, two books and two patents in the area of Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning/Air Transportation.
