Tome Eftimov
Jožef Stefan InstituteTome Eftimov is a senior researcher at the Computer Systems Department at the Jožef Stefan Institute. He is a visiting assistant professor at the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering, Ss. Cyril and Methodius University, Skopje. He is a part of the ELIXIR Food and Nutrition Community. He was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Stanford University, USA, where he investigated biomedical relations outcomes by using AI methods. In addition, he was a research associate at the University of California, San Francisco, investigating AI methods for rheumatology concepts extraction from electronic health records. He obtained his PhD in Information and Communication Technologies (2018) focusing on methods for information extraction and normalization of food and nutrition data. His research interests include natural language processing, statistical data analysis, metaheuristics, representation learning, and machine learning. He is an organizer of several workshops related to AI at high-ranked international conferences including the Big Food and Nutrition Data Management and Analysis at the IEEE BigData conference 2019, 2020, and 2021, AI & Nutrition Track at the Applied Machine Learning Days 2020 and 2021, Semantic Food Q&A at the International Semantic Web Conference. He is a scientific coordinator of a EFSA funded project related to information extraction in food safety and actively participates in several European projects related to AI and food and nutrition data.
