Portrait image of Jannis Born

Jannis is a Predoctoral Researcher at IBM Research Europe (Zurich) and a Ph.D. student at ETH Zurich. His current work uses deep generative models for accelerated discovery of novel chemicals. 
Background: In 2017, Jannis obtained a BSc in Cognitive Science from University of Osnabrück (Germany) after writing his thesis at the Oxford Centre for Theoretical Neuroscience and Artificial Intelligence (University of Oxford). Thereafter, he pursued a MSc in Neural Systems and Computation at ETH and UZH in Zurich, with a focus on computational psychiatry. After graduating with distinction in 2019, he joined IBM for his MSc thesis which he later continued into his PhD. For his thesis, Jannis received in 2019 the 1st price of the FXH Scientific Excellence Award from Roche.
