Resmonics develops clinically validated digital biomarkers for respiratory diseases.

More than 550 million patients worldwide suffer from chronic respiratory diseases such as asthma and COPD. These patients don’t have a tool like a thermometer – something that is easy to use and informs them objectively when they are at risk for dangerous progression of disease. Without it, they may miss their window of opportunity to prevent a life-threatening and expensive-to-treat respiratory crisis like an asthma attack, for example by increasing the dose of their medication in time.

To solve this problem, Resmonics has developed “ResGuard Med”, a sound-based AI that automatically detects the worsening of symptoms and warns users of potentially upcoming respiratory crises. Our AI runs on all standard smartphones using their built-in microphones. Patients only need to place their smartphone in their bedroom at night to get an objective assessment of their respiratory disease and to be informed about their risks status using an easy to understand traffic-light-based system. ResGuard Med offers the objective medical information patients need – it is a CE-certified class 1 software as a medical device based on 5 years of research at leading Swiss universities – but with an unprecedented convenience for end users.

Resmonics was incorporated in October 2020 and is a spin-off from ETH Zurich. Its first product, the “myCough” app, monitors nocturnal cough for all respiratory diseases. It was launched in December 2021 in collaboration with the CSS Health Insurance and is available for free in the Android and Apple app stores.
