Travel mode detection plays a key role in understanding personal mobility. We (company name) put the technologies to detect travel mode at a large-scale commercial test, using them on a daily basis to classify tens of thousands of public transport journeys throughout Switzerland. In this talk, we share our experience in applying transport mode detection techniques in a product setting. We're going to talk about performance and tradeoffs for both traditional methods based on statistical features and more modern ones based on neural networks.
