Due to the explosive growth of data in organizations, the transformation into useful information points and insights is becoming a larger bottleneck. Where data availability used to be the biggest challenge, now the quality and useability of data is becoming more problematic. Meanwhile, tightening regulations on the use of data is making data governance more important and data usage more complex. A reliable data workflow is often missing and there is a market scarcity of the right data professionals. We are not alone in this challenge, promising innovations on the data workflows are arising and now easily accessible for each company. In this talk we’ll show how bol.com, the largest e-commerce player of the Benelux, is transforming the way they work with data.    Our goal is to enable the power of data democratization by automating the most time consuming parts of the data workflow. With a clear data strategy, we started a data platform and embedded data quality assurance throughout the organization. We empower our data analysts with engineering capabilities. By facilitating conversations between data producers and - consumers, we aim to accelerate the momentum of our data flywheel. Furthermore, we have created a ‘golden path’ program to improve our data capability on Analytics, People & Skills, Tools & Tech, Business Adoption, Executive Support, Funding and Implementation in every part of the organization, leading to more value driven development.
